“Misericordes”

Misericordes (Stalls with hinged seats, under which are often irreverent and humorous carvings) found in the Glossary of Norfolk Churches Great and Small, a book of mine.
These fine old carved medieval fold down pews in the Church of St Peter and Paul at Salle, North of Reepham, beautifully lit by natural light. The warm light with the pattern of the leaded window thrown down highlighting the carvings with the rich deep shadows took my eye!
